Why Go to Space?

This was a video explainer project for the Center for Growth and Opportunity and Utah State University. Their chief economist, Eli Dourado, had written a long white paper arguing for continued investment in space exploration.
As their Creative Director, I saw this as a prime opportunity to take a thoughtful but dense piece of academic writing, and translate it into a video that would both summarize the main points, and convey the optimistic pioneering spirit that underscored the paper. I was responsible for all aspects of creative production, from script writing and storyboarding, to artwork, animation securing a voiceover, and sound production.
Estonia’s Digital Society
VIDEO EXPLAINER
This was a video explainer project for my primary client as a freelancer, the Abundance Institute. As part of a high-profile Digital Society Summit, they helped facilitate a long-form interview between entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sten Tamkivi and the former Prime Minister of Estonia (now Vice President of the European Commission) Kaja Kallas. They asked me to take clips from the interview and use them as a foundation for a video explainer arguing that a digital society can help restore trust in government.
Applying the popular Vox style to this animation, I drafted the script, animated the motion graphics together including the text, and used ElevenLab’s AI voice generator to use the Abundance Institute CEO’s voice for the voiceover, which was extremely useful when weathering many changes to the script from the different stakeholders involved in the project. The finished product was a success, and was even featured as part of an exhibit in the Cecil H. Green Library at Stanford University in August of 2025.
